Sonoma County Braces for Possible Flooding, Landslides During Weekend Storm

Flooding and landslides have forced road closures throughout Sonoma County, Kim Yonenaka reports.  Crews have also been working through steady rain to clear the debris. “This tree is about 160’ tall, so you can imagine, there’s a lot of leverage on the soil,” arborist Zachary Wilder says, “It’s a lot better to cut the tree down than have the tree tip over and take a huge chunk of soil with it.”

Flooding and landslides have forced road closures throughout Sonoma County.

Crews are either at work or on call through the weekend, with all waterways in the area under close watch.

In Guerneville, a neighborhood on Mill Street has experienced flooding on the roads. Resident Wendy Chavarria spent Thursday moving her livestock and is keeping watch on the rising water from nearby Fife Creek.

Chavarria anticipates 4 to 6 feet will run through her home this weekend.

On Summerhome Park Road, saturated soil triggered a landslide, shutting down the only way in and out for residents.
